School Fees

A.   Application and Registration Fees (K-12)

·         Application Fee for New Families: $50 non-refundable, to be enclosed with the application form.

·         Registration Fee for New Families: $300 per family with children in K-12 and $150 if the family enrolls only a kindergarten child, to accompany registration forms and immunization records.

B.  K-12 Fees

·         K-12 Regular Tuition. Under our “means-based” tuition plan, parents are encouraged to pay the full cost of their children’s education at MVCS (the “Ceiling” amount in the schedule below), but they may apply for a discounted rate based on the expectation that families will pay no more than 15% of their gross adjusted income (as shown on the most recent income tax return), but also no less than a minimum amount called the “Floor” amount. The “Means-based Tuition Plan” has been organized to provide financial support to those families for whom tuition payment is a great burden. The discounts – expected to total about $150,000 per year – are funded by “external income,” including proceeds from Bargains Galore thrift store, church offerings, fundraisers and individual donations.

·         Discounts for families supporting more than one CSI school: Families that enroll one or more of their children in Grades K-12 in other CSI schools receive a 10% discount on their total tuition fees at MVCS.

·         Facility Fee: This money is placed in the school’s building fund for use when major repairs or replacements are required in the school building, such as replacement of furnace or roof repairs. $300 per family with a Kindergarten student only, $600 per family with a child or children in grades 1 – 12.

·         Damage Deposit: K-5--$10 per student, 6-8--$25 per student, 9-12--$40 per student. This is a trust account held in the name of each student, used for school library fines and payments for damage caused by students. Students and parents are notified when funds are withdrawn from their accounts.

·         Room Parents Fee: K-12--$10 per student. To pay for teacher appreciation gifts and classroom activities, especially at Christmas time and teachers’ birthdays.

·         Athletic Fees: Assessed by the Athletics Department, paid early in the school year.

·         Course Fees: Students are expected to pay for materials used and taken home for projects in Home Economics and Shop.

·         Textbooks: All regular textbooks are purchased by the school from the school’s instructional supplies and resources budget.

C.  Methods of Payment and Payment Schedules – The “FACTS” System

·         Every family is expected either to prepay school fees by July 31 for full-year prepayment (by July 31 and January 31 for semi-annual installments) or to enroll in the FACTS system of automatic bank withdrawals.

·         Application fees are to be paid at time of application and registration Fees are to be paid “up front” at time of registration. Application and registration fees are not included in the amount withdrawn by FACTS, except by special arrangement.

·         The administrative fee for enrolling in the FACTS program is paid by MVCS. The amount of each withdrawal is calculated as a fraction of the total fees owing, and each family elects either 10, 11 or 12 payments per school year, beginning in July. Withdrawals are made either on the 5th or the 20th of each month. Families receiving tuition assistance and families whose tuition is paid by others can make special arrangements with FACTS to ensure that appropriate withdrawals are made on their behalf.

·         Families electing to PREPAY a minimum of one semester’s fees are entitled to a discount. There is a 1% discount on their net regular tuition less any tuition assistance received for semester prepayments received by July 31 and January 31 and a 3% discount for annual prepayments received by July 31. If paying by credit card, a 3% transaction fee will be added to the total.

D.  Tuition Assistance

Families who have difficulty meeting their tuition obligations – especially those whose “income limit” is       lower than the “floor” amount – are encouraged to apply for tuition assistance. Confidential inquiries   regarding tuition assistance may be directed to the School Administrator by calling the school office at         (360) 424-9157 and tuition assistance application materials may be obtained from the school office.
