Mount Vernon
Christian School
Proposed
Revision/Addition
For
Consideration at Finance Committee 1/6/00
Memorial donations sent to the school shall be designated for use in the purchase of library books and materials, unless otherwise specified by the donor.
Assignment of the proceeds from major fundraising projects will be made by the MVCS Development Committee subject to commitments indicated in the MVCS Capital Development Budget.
The Superintendent or his designate will arrange for acceptance of any major gift or endowment, and ensure agreement with the donor on criteria for administering the gift or endowment as well as the allocation of proceeds from the gift or endowment. As appropriate, the Superintendent may refer the potential donor to the MVCS Foundation. Upon being informed about a major gift to be donated to Mount Vernon Christian School, or after receipt of a major gift, the Superintendent or his designate will follow these guidelines and procedures:
(i) Acceptance,
administrative criteria, and designation of major gifts or endowments
The Board of MVCS grants to the Superintendent or his designate the authority to accept a major gift or endowment, and on behalf of MVCS to ensure agreement with the donor on the criteria for administering the gift or endowment and on the allocation of the gift or endowment. At his discretion, the Superintendent may refer proposed arrangements for any gift to the MVCS Board for approval.
(ii) Completion
and Signing of the “Gift Designation Agreement” Form or the “Endowment
Agreement” Form.
The donor will be requested to indicate the intended purpose of the gift, the criteria for its administration, and whether information about the donor and/or the donation may be published, by completing and signing a “Gift Designation Agreement” Form or an “Endowment Agreement Form.” Upon approval by MVCS of the terms of the Agreement, the Superintendent or his designate shall sign the completed Form on behalf of MVCS and send copies to the donor and to the MVCS Bookkeeper.
(i) All earthly wealth is God-given, and believers are admonished to be responsible stewards of God's gifts by using them with care and in service of both God and neighbor (Matt. 25:14-28; Eph. 6:7-8).
(ii) The Bible encourages us to work rather than be a burden on others (I Thess. 4:9-12; II Thess. 3:6-14), to live simply (Heb. 4:9-11), and to avoid the temptation of greed, "for the love of money is the root of all evil" (I Timothy 6:6-10).
(iii) The lure of instant wealth may tempt people to spend unwisely on activities in which money or objects of value are distributed through artificially created chance. Raffles and other games of chance may draw believers away from God and entice them to depend on chance for their needs rather than on God's plan for their lives.
(iv) The Board of Mount Vernon Christian School considers fund-raising methods which have the potential of manipulating individuals by inducing unwise spending and luring believers away from God, to be inappropriate in our school community.
Groups which raise funds for the school are advised to consider the above principles in planning their activities. Plans for fund-raising whose appropriateness is in question should be submitted to the Development Committee which will, at its discretion, recommend a decision to the Board of Mount Vernon Christian School.
Mount Vernon
Christian School may participate in government-funded programs providing such
participation is consistent with the purpose and goals of the school. Where parents are directly involved, the
Board shall, at its discretion, make appropriate proposals to the Association.
